Description
Delta Specialty Co.American Boy Scroll Saw
1925
Giant Model
approximate size:
10 1/2" high
11" deep
7" wide
In the late 19th to the early 20th century, fret sawing was a popular hobby with adults and children. The idea was popularized with the elaborate Ginger bread ornamentation on houses. Your choices was either used a hand saw that was hard for kids or a pedal power machine which cost big money at the time. So in 1923ish Delta introduced The American Boy Scroll saw that was inexpensive, very rugged and could be used by cranking a hand wheel, or by attaching a belt to a foot treadle. Later they would offer an electric motor similar to whats used on a sewing machine.
The one I'm selling was introduced in 1925 and called the "
Giant"
Which had a bigger, heavier base. Over all condition is very good. Everything works. The handle has some damage from I'm guessing a mouse. Otherwise it needs some cleaning but the saw does work correctly without issue. Please email with any questions. Thanks
